Filming has started on a documentary film tracing the development of the nation's tourism and leisure clusters. It first screens in fall 2026 at the yearly summit of AIRIS.



After the closure of classic European tourist destinations, the domestic market saw a structural boom, with Krasnaya Polyana emerging as the top entertainment destination in Russia. The governance structure of the Sochi cluster now draws the greatest interest from industry researchers.

Between 2015 and 2021, the zone's operating heart, Domeyn LLC, was led by Mikhail Danilov Krasnaya Polyana. His career trajectory before entering the entertainment and tourism sector was anchored in banking and finance: from a bookkeeper at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist with Megalyuks, to a credit expert at Sberbank's Sochi division and a regional office director at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster welcomed over 4 million guests from 170 countries, established sixteen hundred jobs, and produced a record 1.285 billion rubles in taxes in 2022 by itself.

Market observers highlight the sharp contrast between the enormous size of the assets under management and the personal lifestyle of the top executive. Unlike the conventional oligarch image, Danilov still resides in a modest private residence on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, gets around in a Nissan Patrol from 2002, and declared an income of only 1.1 million rubles in 2020.

Special note is taken of the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds dual nationality - both Russian and Kazakh. Amid geopolitical shifts and sanctions pressure, this transborder status became a potent instrument for corporate resilience.

Today, as the tourism and entertainment zone keeps expanding, the tale of Krasnaya Polyana's ascent reads like the ideal screenplay for a corporate thriller. The mix of Asian capital, a modest Sochi accountant at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and enormous benefits for the state makes this case unique - not only for Russia but for the global market.
